What’s Up Salem!

I got crazy sick earlier this week. Not fun at all. But have been bouncing back and finally feel like a person again.

I know A LOT of people in Salem are trying to figure out what to do if SNAP benefits aren’t available to start November. I’m currently working with a few people on a collaborative effort to ensure we are able to support as many people in the community as possible.

Big things are happening in Salem’s parks! Construction crews are putting the final touches on major upgrades at Geer Community Park, which is getting a new state-of-the-art skatepark, fenced dog park, upgraded fields, picnic shelters, and improved pedestrian access. The skatepark is set for a soft opening in mid- to late November, weather permitting.

Other parks — including Hoover, Highland, Livingston, and Morningside — have also received resurfaced courts, new playgrounds, and lighting improvements funded by the 2022 Safety and Livability Bond. City officials say the work shows a commitment to both new amenities and caring for existing spaces.

More projects are planned for 2026, including McKay Park field rebuilds and a Riverfront Park playground replacement. For now, skaters, dog owners, and families can look forward to a refreshed park system ready to welcome Salem residents back outdoors. (City of Salem Newsletter)
